Honoring Our Lineworkers
Every second Monday in April, we stop, recognize and celebrate a group of workers that deserve to be in the spotlight every day. Today, I want to take a moment to reflect on the often unseen but critically important work our lineworkers do for us.
Lineworkers are truly the backbone of our electric cooperative. They are the dedicated professionals who make sure that electricity flows reliably and safely to homes, schools, businesses and farms. They respond to outages, climb poles, repair power lines, and ensure that our electrical infrastructure is maintained, often in the most challenging of conditions. Whether it’s a summer storm that knocks out power or the bitter cold of winter, lineworkers are out in the elements working around the clock to restore service. They face hazardous conditions daily, working with high-voltage power lines and heavy equipment. Yet, they do it all with an unwavering commitment to safety and service. They work not only for us, but with us, understanding that electricity is more than just a utility — it’s a lifeline.
Our lineworkers are true problem solvers, constantly adapting to new technology, equipment and challenges. They undergo extensive training and certifications to ensure they are ready for whatever comes their way.
Beyond their technical skills, lineworkers display remarkable resilience and teamwork. They are often the first on the scene after a major outage, working together to restore service as quickly as possible while keeping safety as their top priority. It’s a job that requires both physical strength and mental toughness, and it’s done with a sense of pride that is truly inspiring.
As a cooperative, we pride ourselves on being member-focused, and our lineworkers are a perfect reflection of that spirit. They understand that the power they restore is more than just electricity — it’s warmth on a cold winter night, lights for children to study, life-saving medical equipment, and the productivity that keeps businesses running.
This month, as we celebrate Lineworker Appreciation Month, I encourage all of us to take a moment to thank our lineworkers. Whether it’s a simple “thank you” or a more personal gesture, let’s acknowledge the tremendous value they bring to our cooperative and our communities.
If you see one of our lineworkers around town, I hope you will take a moment to say thank you. Even if it isn’t on April 14, I know they will appreciate it.
